Circumferential Servo Retrofit for Sanden Presses

Reliable solution to aging technology

Designed to replace a once quite capable servo drive, the original “black box” Yaskawa drives had functionality that few other drives were capable of. Unfortunately, this means there are few modern replacements as these drives are long out of production.

One size fits all

A 750w (1hp) servo replaces what was typically a 400w servo. Brackets designed for Andantex or Tandler Gearboxes.

Thinking outside of the box

The “brains” of the operation are removed from the servo drive. A 600mhz micro controller runs firmware that accepts a subset of old Yaskawa serial commands over RS232. These commands are translated and relayed to a modern servo drive that accepts a simple command set. Gear ratio indexing and a rotary positioning system are employed by the micro controller module. The servo drive serial port is magnetically isolated on the carrier PCB so drive noise does not affect press electronics. This design approach ensures that the original press software is untouched and the system can be adapted to a different drive should the current drive become obsolete.
